I regret trading in my brother sewing machine for a more expensive, complicated machine. I didn’t even get that one new, it was given to me by my dry cleaner’s tailor who bought a new one. I had it for over 10 years, it was easy to use, easy to thread, had simple operating and troubleshooting instructions, was very basic and was a workhorse. I sewed all of the draperies, throws, comforters, pillow shams, place mats, table cloths, napkins, etc. when I built this house and all it needed was a good cleaning and oiling every couple of years and it worked on. The new one I bought, is complicated, has too many stitches and gizmos that I don’t know what to do with. If you are basically a straight line sewer, don’t need many complicated stitches or bells and whistles, the basic brother is inexpensive and will serve you well. I hardly even use the new machine because it frustrates me to no end just to thread or fill a bobbin!
